UDEM Graduate Innovates with Sustainable Concrete at Summit and Captivates Spanish Royalty

  • Walter Mata Martínez, a graduate of Universidad de Monterrey, was the only Mexican entrepreneur invited to South Summit Madrid 2025.  Alongside 100 finalist startups from around the world, he had an audience with King Felipe VI of Spain.

Walter Mata Martínez, an entrepreneur from Monterrey and graduate of Universidad de Monterrey, was the only representative of the Mexican startup ecosystem invited to South Summit Madrid 2025. He was also one of the few selected to have a brief but meaningful encounter with King Felipe VI of Spain.

UDEM offers an infinite number of academic, cultural and spiritual activities in which we as students can participate.

There is a student group for every talent and interest. I like to help people reach their full potential, and that is why I applied to be part of the Mechatronics Engineering Alumni Society (IMT) and IRSI/ITR, where I will be serving as treasurer next semester.

During the time I have been at UDEM, I have been involved in different student groups as president of SAITR-IMT and vice president of IEEE RAS, besides being able to make what so far I think is my greatest achievement within the UDEM which is the Robotics Club which will take shape gradually but by leaps and bounds.

In my university life at UDEM I have been able to live multiple experiences that have helped me form myself as a leader and grow both personally and professionally.

I think that venturing to try new things such as student groups, volunteering, contests, forums and university events, help a lot to open our way of seeing the world and teach us new skills.

Adrián Lozano Sepúlveda

Mauricio Guajardo Touché

Mauricio Guajardo Touché, a graduate of the Industrial and Systems Engineering undergraduate program decided to make a career change and become a ceramist, deleting the curriculum he had built up to that point, at 38 years of age, and start over. About this crucial decision, Mauricio commented: "After graduating, I worked for almost 15 years as an IIS and in Management in the Industry, and even though I liked it, I always felt that there was something missing.

Manuel Enrique Sánchez Martínez

Originally from Nuevo León, Manuel Enrique Sánchez Martínez graduated from the undergraduate program in Industrial and Systems Engineering and from the master’s degree program in Business Administration. Since 2006, he has been the head of the Division Office of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), in charge of Sustainable Development for the states of Nuevo León, Coahuila, and Tamaulipas.
