The Gastroenterology specialist physician, through a medical practice supported by an educational methodology focused on problem-solving, becomes highly competent in their specific area of expertise.

The duration of the Specialty in Gastroenterology is 3 years.

Required Academic Background: 2 years of specialization in Internal Medicine.

Objective

To prepare Gastroenterology specialist physicians to be individuals with comprehensive training that includes knowledge of basic and clinical sciences, as well as fundamentals of internal medicine; capable of solving problems related to acute and chronic digestive pathology of the patient; including complete clinical evaluation, clinical and paraclinical diagnosis, comprehensive medical treatment, and offering the highest standards of patient care and safety.

  • To order and interpret the results of diagnostic or therapeutic auxiliary tests, whether radiographic, endoscopic, or manometry studies, among others.

  • To perform procedures such as diagnostic and/or therapeutic paracentesis, application of Sengstaken-Blakemore balloon catheters, diagnostic endoscopy, among others, to help resolve digestive system disorders.

  • To promote advances in gastroenterology in professional practice and among patients.

  • To promptly resolve gastroenterological emergencies.

  • To conduct clinical research in the field of gastroenterology.
